Short Introduction of Thomas Klein - Consultant at IMIG Germany
My name is Thomas Klein and I have been employed as a consultant at IMIG Industry Consult GmbH since July 2019. My areas of specialization are Lean Management and Supply Chain Management, where I can build on over 20 years of practical experience as a manager in the automotive industry and mechanical engineering.
When I am not working, I am passionate about spending my spare time on classic British cars of the MG brand (of which I also own two). I am active as a volunteer CFO of MG Drivers Club Deutschland e.V.
After a technical apprenticeship and the subsequent university studies in Physical Engineering, I started my career as a development engineer in the field of optical communications in the industry. After that, my curiosity drove me towards business administration and I gained initial experience with business processes in the area of customer order processing, production planning, and production control, as well as in operative material procurement.
The alternating focus between business and technical topics inspired me to earn another degree, this time in Business Studies while being employed. This allowed me to gain theoretical and practical knowledge in both fields. I proceeded to collect experience with the business processes in purchasing, in logistics, in internal sales, in customs-related matters, and production, which enables me to deal with all issues and problems in the supply chain.
It has always been important to me to ensure that business processes are kept transparent and well-integrated into an ERP system. I was able to gain plenty of practical experience with BaaN and solidified my knowledge of the SAP modules MM, SD, PP and WM.
I especially enjoyed working as a project manager during the construction of a new logistics center with office spaces, with a fully automated pallet warehouse, and with conveyor technology for the internal transport of the pallets. In this project, all logistical processes - from the receipt of goods, through material supply and material disposal in production, all the way to shipping - were developed anew and mapped transparently using SAP. The entire project had a volume of EUR 10.5 million and was completed successfully with a production start-up and a brief follow-up optimization phase. For me, the experience and positive results from this project were the catalysts that drove me to re-think my professional future and to switch over from business operations to consulting.
As an implementation-oriented consultant, my challenge is to optimize existing business processes together with IMIG's customers and to enable our customers to consistently develop their potential - in their existing core markets, in new markets, and new industries.
I am convinced that this will make it possible to implement major topics of the future such as Future Mobility and Industry 4.0, which will benefit customers and in this way make companies better equipped to deal with the challenges of tomorrow. My motivation is to try the seemingly impossible to achieve what is possible.
During my first six months at IMIG, I was able to demonstrate my expertise in a project aimed at optimizing the supply chain of an international customer in the automotive supply industry and an outsourcing project for the logistics of a customer from the mechanical engineering supply industry.
